HISTORY

The history of the Geldbach family goes back to Dr. Geldbach’s grandfather Wilhelm Geldbach. In 1903 he founded his own press and stamping plant with a factory for collars and plate flanges for the mining industry, which were forged to the pipes at the time. “His two sons, Dr. Wilhelm Geldbach and Dr. Alfred Geldbach, took the com¬pany over and contributed their own engineering skills and many patented developments,” says Ms. El Difrawi-Geldbach. “When my husband joined the company in 1963, it had 218 employees and was still mainly part of the mining industry.” It was Dr. Geldbach’s sense of duty that made the Doctor of Law and qualified tax assistant dedicate his career to the family business. His father had died in 1952, and his uncle began to withdraw from business after founder Wilhelm Geldbach also died in 1964. In response to the coal crisis of 1968 Dr. Geldbach did everything to intensify sales and expand international cooperation. Production focused on flanges and fittings and gained the Geldbach company numerous international approvals by major chemical and petrochemical companies. In the early 1970s Dr. Geldbach founded Geldbach Gruppe GmbH & Co. KG to gain more independence from one single industry. In 1999 Geldbach Gruppe and Wilhelm Geldbach, Gelsen¬kirchen, were separated to work independently. For Dr. Geldbach this meant being able to realize production on an international scale, yet in accordance with internationally valued German quality standards. “Our patents have become the technological standard in the meantime,” comments Ms. El Difrawi-Geldbach. “While demands are forever ris¬ing, innovations are only possible where materials are concerned. We produce flanges and fittings of very high German quality, which is appreciated worldwide. All our workshops operate like German factories, with all the necessary approvals.” The Geldbach Group is a 100% family-owned holding. Four of its 33 members worldwide are manufacturers: two in Germany and two in China, both equipped with the long-term experience and know-how of their German parent companies.
